Meet Texas Business Litigation Attorney Jose M. Portela

In 2009, Jose M. Portela, a new partner at The Beckham Group, was selected to Texas Rising Stars© for 2009, by Texas Super Lawyers© (a company of Reuters), a prestigious honor awarded only to the top 2% of young lawyers in the state of Texas.

Portela earned his undergraduate degree with double majors in accounting and international business from American University in Washington, DC in 1994. Portela earned his Juris Doctorate in 1997 at the Southern Methodist University School of Law where he was a Carl W. Summers Scholar, a national semi-finalist in the Hispanic National Bar Association Moot Court Competition, and the recipient of multiple Best Oral Advocate Awards.

Before joining The Beckham Group as a Texas commercial litigation attorney, Portela was an intern to U.S. Congressman and House Majority Leader Dick Armey in Texas and Washington, D.C. He was also the owner and operator of a small business, an experience that honed his already sharp business acumen and negotiation skills.

Portela and his wife Jennifer are the proud parents of Jose M. Portela, III and Jacob Thomas Portela.

Portela is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts, and the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.
